We have three open parent positions for a two-year term.
We also have three open student positions for this school year.
The site council meets once per quarter via zoom.
What does the site council do?
The job of an elected site council member is to:
-work with the principal and site council members to analyze and evaluate academic achievement and aims of the school
-help develop and approve the school plan for student achievement with related proposed budget expenditures
-convey site budget goals and recommendations to other funding sources
-work collaboratively with MDUSD to provide programs beneficial to students and the site as a whole
-develop and maintain the school safety plan
To nominate yourself, a teacher, or a student, please feel free to contact Melissa Brennan at brennanm@mdusd.org.
The secondary intradistrict transfer application process is Oct 15th-Nov 15th. The online application is available at mdusd.org/intradistricttransfers for students that will be in grades 6-12 for the 2023-2034 school year.

What is Independent Study?
- Our Independent Study school is a University of California a-g approved program for high school students. It is designed to meet the same requirements as a traditional comprehensive high school.
- Students must transfer from their current high school to attend CIS full time. Most students graduate from CIS.
- Students meet with a CIS teacher at least one (1) hour per week to review assignments, progress, assess skills, and develop a graduation plan. Full time students must take a minimum of four (4) classes to be considered a full time CIS student.
- CIS students have the option to enroll in classes at their traditional high school for daily instruction concurrently, if it is necessary.
- CIS students have the option to attend classes at Diablo Valley College while they attend CIS. Students may take one or two classes concurrently with Diablo Valley College to earn both high school and college credits. Students work with CIS teachers to choose courses.
- Horizons also offers classes for students who would like more support. There are classes offered in math, science, and art. This support is available all school year and students will meet with their assigned CIS teacher to review their progress and schedule.
- CIS students are able to play sports, join clubs and attend field trips and after school activities at their comprehensive high schools as long as they remain in good standing at CIS.
