Horizons CIS Application
Take the completed application to your home school administrator or counselor. Please note: application does not guarantee acceptance.
How do you know you are ready?
- You easily read the textbooks for your grade level
- You can write a 250 word, 5 paragraph essay
- You are ready to spend 20-30 hours a week at home by yourself, reading and working on assignments
- You work at the same speed or faster than your current classmates
- You are prepared and work completed when you go to class

Things you may not know about Horizons CIS

Students in Horizons are required to be “full time” students in the program. That means that they must take at least four courses, or 20 credits, in the program, no matter what they are doing elsewhere.

Students in Horizons School can participate in athletics at their home school. (Students must take two courses at the comprehensive high school, meet CIF and the comprehensive high school graduation requirements, and be eligible.)

Horizons School students can do activities such as dances and proms at their comprehensive high school. (There are forms to be signed.)

Students at Horizons School can graduate at their comprehensive high school. They have to meet the comprehensive high school graduation requirements.

At Horizons School, our mission is to prepare you to succeed in your education, graduate high school, pursue post-secondary options and become a productive citizen.
Horizons School, including the Center for Independent Study and Home Study programs, are part of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.
Horizons Schools is a fully WASC-accredited school, with California credentialed teachers and has an UC/CSU approved college preparatory program.
The standards in Horizons School meet all the requirements for graduation from the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.
