Dear Mt. Diablo Unified School District Families:

 

All schools in Mt. Diablo Unified will be closed tomorrow, Friday, November 16, 2018, due to air quality conditions. The forecasted air quality for tomorrow is projected to be at a more hazardous level; we also are concerned with the cumulative effect of poor air quality.  

 

We thank you and your families for your patience during what has been a very difficult time for our Northern California communities, and wish you a restful Thanksgiving.

Application

Take the completed application to your administrator or counselor. Please note: application does not guarantee acceptance.
 
How do you know you are ready?
 - You easily read the textbooks for your grade level
 - You can write a 250 word, 5 paragraph essay
 - You are ready to spend 20-30 hours a week at home by yourself, reading and working on assignments 
 - You work at the same speed or faster than your current classmates
 - You are prepared and work completed when you go to class

First HOSA (Future Health Professional) Field Trip! A great experience at MDAE Health Fair!
  • Students in Horizons School can participate in athletics at their home school.  (Students must take two courses at the comprehensive high school, meet CIF and the comprehensive high school graduation requirements, and be eligible.)
  • Horizons School students can do activities such as dances and proms at their comprehensive high school.  (There are forms to be signed.)
  • Students at Horizons School can graduate at their comprehensive high school. They have to meet the comprehensive high school graduation requirements..
  • Students in Horizons are required to be “fulltime” students in the program.  That means that they must take at least four courses, or 20 credits, in the program, no matter what they are doing elsewhere.

Horizons School, including the Center for Independent Study and Home Study programs, are part of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.  It is a fully WASC-accredited school, with California credentialed teachers and has an UC/CSU approved college preparatory program.  The standards in Horizons School meet all the requirements for graduation from the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.
